In line with the University’s strategic drive of broadening its international programmes, it intends to expand the exchange and collaboration model it currently has with some universities in Cuba, South Africa and Greece to include selected universities in Ghana.
Professor Lisa Pawloski - Associate Dean for International program and Professor Thaddeus P. Ulzen Associate Dean for Academic Affairs met with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bill Puplampu and the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor John Ofosu-Anim at the Miotso campus of Central University on Tuesday 19th June, 2018 to further discuss the prospects of collaboration between the two institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor welcomed and assured them that Central University was happy to collaborate with the University of Alabama for the mutual benefit of both institutions through research, student and faculty exchange programmes. He also proposed that cross faculty teaching at both institutions as well as full semester experience of students and staff at both institutions should be explored.
He mentioned that there already exists memoranda of understanding between Central University and the University of Florida , the University of Western Carolina in the USA and recently the Sany Polytechnic University in China in the are of Engineering and Science.
Prof Thaddeus P. Ulzen said the collaboration will commence with a planned symposium to be hosted in Ghana in September 2020 on the theme ‘Social determinants of health’. This theme, he explained, was chosen to provide a platform for interdisciplinary engagement by faculty members from both institutions.
Prof. Lisa Pawloski, the Associate Dean of international programmes at the University of Alabama in an interaction with some faculty members of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the School of Architecture and Engineering indicated that faculties and their research interests from Alabama who are willing to collaborate with colleagues in Central University are already being prepared and this will be made available to the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Academic to help faculty members identify colleagues working in their areas of interest.
A formal MOU is expected to be signed soon to formalise the arrangements.
The faculty members present took turns to introduce themselves and their areas of research interest.
