The Chancellor of Central University, Rev Dr. Mensa Otabil and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bill Buenar Puplampu have returned from a 3-day working visit to the Republic of China.

Whiles in China, they held meetings with some important strategic partners and business leaders to explore mutually beneficial relationships between Central University and their institutions. The team met with His Excellency, Sun Baohong, former Chinese Ambassador to Ghana and His Excellency Ambassador Edward Boateng, Ghana’s ambassador to China. Another meeting to discuss collaboration opportunities was held with the China-Asia Economic Development Association.

They also met with the authorities of the Tshinghua University to explore the possibility of faculty and students of Central University applying for the Schwarzman Scholarship. This scholarship which is created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century gives opportunity to students from all over the world to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s degree at the Tshinghua University in Beijing.

An MOU was signed with the Sany Polytechnic College, to explore the possibility of setting up a model factory facility on the CU campus to facilitate study in various engineering disciplines. A meeting with the officials of the Xiamen University explored the prospects of law Faculty undertaking their PhD in law at that University. 

Fruitful discussions were also held with the officials of the Xiamen Municipal Assembly. Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil also delivered a speech on the topic, the Role of the Ghanaian Diaspora in the nation’s development at a meeting of the Ghanaian Diaspora in Beijing. This afforded Dr. Otabil and Professor Puplampu the opportunity to meet the Managing Director of the Tianjin Able Import and Export Trading Company Limited (AIETC) and the Tianjin Able Shipping Company Limited (TASAC), Mr. Stephen Ketu, whose extraordinary and inspiring story of experiences in Hong Kong and Beijing starting with his entrepreneurial journey as a barber to becoming an international business man encapsulated the virtues of faith, integrity and excellence. 

It is expected that the gains from the agreements entered into and the engagements held will start yielding fruits and among others, facilitate equipment for the University’s Hospital and Medical School.

The visit was facilitated by Ghana’s Ambassador to the Peoples’ Republic of China, His Excellency Ambassador Edward Boateng. The University is deeply grateful to him.
