  • Central University Partners Southern University

Central University College (CUC) is set to exchange students and faculty members with Southern University, New Orleans (SUNO). Excited SUNO Chancellor, Victor Ukpolo said the long-distance partnership will “expand the universities footprint,” opening up opportunities for students to pursue international study. The “memorandum of understanding” was signed on SUNO’s campus on Tuesday by Prof. Kwesi Yankah (President, CUC), Prof. F.K. Rodrigues (Dean, School of Applied Sciences, CUC) and their SUNO counterparts.

The agreement will allow the two universities to begin working out details of an exchange programmme that would send university faculty and students from CUC to SUNO and vice versa. “With a similar climate to Louisiana, and situated on the coast, we envisions designing joint research projects where students and professors from both countries could study topics including agriculture, the environment and coastal erosion” says the Chancellor of SUNO.

SUNO Provost David Adegboye says there is no limit to the research potential that exists between the two universities and the opportunities for collaboration. CUC was founded in 1988 as a pastoral training institute before it was rechristened the Central University College in 1997. The school is known for its programs in theology, business administration, economics and computer science programmes. The university’s main campus is in Miotso; near Dawhenya. With an undergraduate population of about 8,400 students and four other campuses, CUC is the largest private university in Ghana. The agreement between the two schools will allow faculty to start initiating types of proposals that could attract international research grants.

More Partnerships and More Opportunities at CUC

The Central University College has over the past few months been in talks with a myriad of Universities across the globe.

One would quickly recollect the MOU signed between CUC and the Southern University of New Orleans. Others are the China State University and the Groupe Institut Africain du Management. One can also think of the recent friendship between CUC and the Indiana University.

The newest addition to these talks is with the Grace College in the United States of America. CUC is in its initial stages towards partnering with this institution. Grace College has both graduate and under graduate courses in Communication, Ministry, Social Sciences, Applied Sciences and Business Administration. At the end of successful discussions it is hoped that the Grace College will be on the list of CUC partners. These partnerships will involve the exchange of students and faculty members from both institutions.

These exchange programmes will enlighten both students and faculty especially to appreciate diverse cultures and foster cordial relationships.
